Tom Arntzen

Tom Arntzen is a singer, keyboardist, singer, composer, arranger,and producer. He played his first professional engagement at age 13, and is able to sing any style of song in any key! But his first love is jazz and blues. His father, Lloyd Arntzen, taught him all the good tunes from the New Orleans tradition of jazz,and Tom later learned to love the piano styles of Bill Evans, Fats Waller, Erroll Garner and Oscar Peterson.

 

Tom plays and sings standards from the Great American Songbook in a unique way, layering all his musical influences into each arrangement to create a joyous pastiche of soulful, swinging, open-hearted music. As a singer, Tom’s influences are Louis Armstrong, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. As a singer-songwriter, Tom has released three critically acclaimed albums of original music: Everyday Love, The Turning, and Real Live Music and has played and sung on two albums with Three Generations of Jazz, featuring members of his family.

 

Tom has played his music all over the world, including New York, Norway and Cambodia(!), and jazz festivals in Vancouver, Victoria and Kaslo. The Tom Arntzen Trio features Laurence Mollerup on bass and Bernie Arai on drums.
