Fiddle Big Fiddle

Based in Kelowna, BC, Fiddle Big Fiddle started playing together in 2014 when Nils and Julia met while teaching at Wentworth Music. What started out as performing at weddings and special events in the summer quickly turned into regular performances in the Okanagan Valley. They’ve worked with local artists, musicians and videographers, as well as formed relationships with different business owners and community members involved in the arts and arts organizations.

JULIA WATSON (violin/piano) is a prairie-born violinist who obtained a degree in Classical Violin Performance from Brandon University. Since making her way out west in 2014, she has been working as a full- time music teacher in the Okanagan Valley. She enjoys fiddling, improvising, and composing music, as well as arranging pieces for Fiddle Big Fiddle and her students. You can catch her around town working with local artists, whether it’s playing live shows or recording in the studio. She currently teaches over a 170 students per week either in private lessons or the school system, while also playing with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra.

NILS LOEWEN (cello/guitar) is BC born but had to take a roundabout journey to return to his roots. Raised in Minnesota; studied music in Winnipeg; learned cello while tree planting in northern BC; and finally landed in Kelowna. He has toured his cello through BC and AB with rock, blues, and folk groups.

Fiddle Big Fiddle took their name from their love of fiddle, folk and jazz music.
